Steve Morgan for Grange Ward

Wednesday, 25 April, 2012

Since being made redundant last year from my job as a caravan salesman I have had much more time to devote to issues and problems around the area. I am grateful for the help of residents who have brought things to my attention.
My experience of living and working in the City and my positive attitude, my glass is always half full, mean that I can take pride in seeing that Gloucester is moving forward in many ways.
As a member of the ruling Conservative Cabinet I recognise that jobs are a vital element of the health of a City and so I wholeheartedly support any measures to get people into work, especially the young.
I would be honoured to have the chance to continue to serve the people of Grange and Gloucester for the next 4 years.

Jobs and regeneration

No issue is more important than jobs, particularly for our young people, in the current climate.  We’ve brought in £500 million of investment to the city in recent years, helping to transform the face of Gloucester, with another £200 million in the pipeline.  We want to make sure local people benefit from regeneration, by making sure they have the skills to fill the jobs created by it – through apprenticeships and other measures.  We will encourage companies to relocate to the city, new firms to start up and existing businesses to expand to get unemployment in the city on a downward trend.  We have some real business success stories in Gloucester and we want more of them.  Opportunities like new business units on the Railway Triangle can help to make this a reality.
