The County Council’s budget consultation has revealed very strong support for the Conservative-run authority’s plans to freeze council tax– even among groups who use council services most. In a statistically representative sample of county residents, 74% backed the freeze, with 17% opposing it. Even among service users, who regularly receive council help, 64% supported the freeze, with 19% opposed. The research, which was carried out independently, asked respondents if they backed a council tax freeze, even if it limited the council’s ability to raise funds in future. It formed part of the statutory consultation that the council has to carry out prior to setting its council tax for the year.

Gloucestershire County Council today announced an investment package to bring better infrastructure, skills and jobs to the county.

Worth more than an estimated £100 million, the package includes investments in high speed broadband, better road links, skills for young people and deposits for first time buyers.

Training for out of work youngsters has given a boost by Gloucester MP Richard Graham's cherry n white charity cycle ride from Gloucester to Parliament. The City MP has raised £1,300 for the rugby charity Wooden Spoon Gloucestershire's funds for the Onside training course which prepares young people for jobs. The Onside courses are run by Prospect Training in conjunction with the Gloucester Rugby Club.

Before the team plan their programme of events they are asking businesses interested in this market to let them know of any potential issues they have, or questions they need answering to ensure the events are suitable.

A major new city centre development for Gloucester – with features to match those in Bath and Exeter – is now a step nearer.

The scheme is predicted to help shoot the city 20 places up the national retail rankings.

Now the City Council’s Cabinet is being asked to approve a decision to enter into detailed contractual arrangements with Stanhope plc which would see it become the ‘developer partner’ for the King’s Quarter regeneration scheme.

Over 2000 jobs and apprenticeships available at the first Barton BME Jobs Fair on Friday 17th June

Gloucester MP Richard Graham has teamed up with Black South West Network and Linking Communities to help the city's unemployed ethnic minorities find jobs.

The Barton BME Jobs Fair is from 2.30 – 6.00pm on Friday 17th June at the Barton Community Centre in Barton Street, opposite Stratton Road.

Residents in Gloucester are being asked whether the vision for the city over the next ten years is on the right track.

The ‘City Vision’ has been designed by the Gloucester Partnership which brings together public, private and voluntary organisations in the city.  The document sets out how the city will tackle some of the most important challenges it faces over the next decade – and will present a clear picture to investors or how Gloucester will develop over the coming years, helping attract inward investment.

Economic experts at Gloucester City Council want to help local firms reach millions of potential new customers – across the world.

 

By ‘dipping their toes’ into the export market – or expanding existing services – local businesses can increase their financial viability.

 

Now two offers are being made to companies in Gloucester interested in finding out more about exporting their products and services.

 

The first is to take part in a survey to help develop a programme of events designed to meet the export information and advice needs of local entrepreneurs.
