Government slammed for A40 misery

Government slammed for A40 misery

Conservatives on Gloucestershire County Council have slammed the Government’s Highways Agency for causing yet more delays with roadworks on the crucial road between Highnam and Over.  Despite months of delays caused by previous Highways Agency work on the road, the same site is now being revisited.  Concerns have been expressed that the changes made will add to congestion on the road.

The County Council has only given very limited notice of the changes, which they have not agreed to.  Earlier this year the Government refused to return control of this section of the road to the Council, claiming it was too expensive to do so.

Cllr Stan Waddington, Conservative roads spokesman, commented:

“I’m furious that the Highways Agency can plunge such an important road into chaos, once again, with so little warning to the County Council.  This road should be under the control of the County Council – so that local peoples’ views can be taken into account.”
